Brundlefly & the Swede
Brundlefly & the Swede- sitting in a field, NJ 2015
Brundlefly & the Swede are Jason Socci and Matthew Kohnle. Both were members of the late 90's post-rock band "Daybed", and grew up together playing in all manner of bands- both triumphant and embarrassing.
Bf&s started when the the two would take a break from playing with the larger group, and opt for the immediacy of writing as a duo. Initially the band was a performance based, experimental project, with a focus on fleet fingered acoustic guitars and the occasional flute. While the duo performed a few times, it was never quite captured on record before disbanding in 2000, when Jason skipped out of the east coast for Utah, ending both BF&S and Daybed in the process.
However, the pair remained friends, and in 2010, decided to see reconvene and make something. The result was 2013's "Cabin Music", which while based around acoustic guitar recordings which took place in a rented Cabin in Asheville, NC, quickly evolved into a multi-layered instrumental LP, consisting of two sides of uninterrupted music.
In 2014, the band started sessions for what was to become "Pretense", an even more elaborate, and sophisticated LP which expands greatly on the already ambitious scope of "Cabin Music", and pushes much further.
The pair write, perform record and produce on their own. They also write biographies in the third person about themselves. They do not tour, or get out much, for that matter.
